2008 World XTERRA Champs

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I knew I had my 4th XTERRA World title in the bag. I knew it.
I felt the strongest I have felt in years. Tore up the bike course and had between 2min30 and 3min lead with only 6k to go on the bike- and then the P word happened again- on the smoothest road [...]

When you have your birthday on a tropical island.

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I started XTERRA training at 4 years old when single speed and white tires were all the rage.
I’m in Maui, Hawaii. It has been my birthday for almost 24 hrs and, it will keep going for at least another 20 hrs. Thanks to Facebook, I have been getting birthday wishes from folks in Australasia [...]

Those Edge Wheels

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

I have been riding Edge Composites wheels this summer.
What a pleasure.
The product is amazing - just about bomb proof wheels but also quite light. What I really appreciate is the joy and pride going into these hand crafted wheels. 340g per rim for the Edge XC MTB. The AM (All Mountain is more of a [...]

Just got home after midnight. Amber decided it would be fun to walk the WHOLE marathon. All 7h30 of it. And then spend some time in the Medical tent. Ouch. A long, tough day. Read more about it at www.ambermonforte.com
Chrissie Wellington had a flat, spent 10 mins fixing it and still won [...]

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

For what its worth… I’m not an Ironman expert, but I personally know many of the top male contenders from the years of racing short course.
Andy Potts

I trained with Andy at the Olympic Training Center. He arrived fat and unfit - just starting his tri career 2 years after barely missing the US Olympic swimming [...]

Ironman Kona swim experience

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

I couldn’t figure out what the squeaking sounds were, till the dolphins were right next to me. They hung around for a while and swam amongst the 100s of other swimmers - delighted squeals piping up everywhere…

Amber in familiar territory- Kona start line. Its her 3rd Kona IM. Her best time was 10hr40 in [...]

The week leading up to Ironman Hawaii, Kona

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

The Ironman village had a demo booth where athletes can test run shoes, ride bikes etc. I worked at the Avia booth and was amazed at the size and energy of this whole Kona/Ironman thing. The Avi Lite II seems to be the most poplular for IM racing- its light with plenty of cushioning. [...]

Death on the Flume Trail. Well, almost…

The Flume Trail- Lake Tahoe
I pre rode this weekends’ XTERRA USA Champs course here at Incline Village, Lake Tahoe.  I’m in full taper and the legs are great- I churned the big chainring as I effortlessly glided along the most scenic trail I have ever ridden. The Flume Trail.
