Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Conrad Stoltz -my 1st Cyclo Cross experience. On a mountain bike. Ok, a Specialized Epic 29er, but still a mountain bike.
If you were expecting the XTERRA USA write up, its coming. Actually, this is the 1st of a 3 part series of the 10 days leading up into XTERRA Nationals, explaining my interesting preparation, but [...]

Big weekend for Specialized

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Ned Overend won the Single Speed National title. (the big race, not the old man’s race) And he did it on a Specialized Rockhopper 29er! (mid range aluminium frame)

I took this pic at the Specialized 2011 bike launch in Keystone, CO. Not quite sure how he went up that mountain at that altitude with 1 [...]

XTERRA Bama quicky.

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Thanks to Felipe Bastos’ fiance for the pic.
3 wins in 3 XTERRAs.
29ers dominate: 1-5 in mens’ race, 1st in women’s.
Was one of the hottest races I have ever done.
Borrowed from the interweb: (time for bed here)
After being out -I wasnt “out”, I was just handicapped. C -with injuries for a good part of 2009, Conrad [...]

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Yup, I brought the big dog. This is the perfect 29er course- fast, rocky, rooty and technical.
Specialized Epic 29er.
For more on 29ers, visit my my 29er page on Facebook
-Command Post telescopic seat post. (notice dropped seat height for the technical terrain) I wrote about the Command Post exhaustively on this previous post
-Specialized Fast Trak LK [...]

2009 Pic from mtbr.com

The suspension on my Epic 29er was so dialled -
it rode like a couch…
Specialized killed it:
Burry won, Todd 3rd and Susi 4th.

Hectic busy with packing and travel - more later.

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

MEDIA RELEASE
(Caveman report to follow shortly…)
For Immediate Release
Stoltz claims scorching victory
(Stellenbosch, 7 March 2010) Approximately 4,500 riders battled it out in this weekend’s Cape Argus Pick n Pay Mountain Bike Challenge. The 2010 MTB Challenge will certainly be remembered for its unbearably hot conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 42′C on today’s 35km and [...]

This one time, at band camp, I rode 300 Watts for 3hrs

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Since I ate my helmet, (and embraced training technology when we started base training about a month ago.) I have been enjoying training with my Power Tap thoroughly. (Rent your Power Tap today from the folks at Saris/CycleOps, South Africa)
For Valentines’ Day, my coach Ian Rodger gave me 3 hrs at 300 Watts. So romantic.  [...]

The Caveman Cometh (and he’s on a 29er)

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

So, you are a trail mashing mofo; gnarliest of the gnar. Yes, you are a fit machine and can ride. You have skills. Skills, eh? How about swimming, mountain biking and running — as in consecutively… in one day… at race pace?
Whaddya say? That off-road triathlon stuff — Xterra — isn’t for true mountain bikers? [...]

29er Mania… Found this XTERRA South Africa (Grabouw) pic of beloved Specialized Stumpjumper 29er

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

XTERRA South Africa
If you dont know it yet, I LOVE 29ers!   (29er = Big wheels)
- Handles rocky, sandy, bumpy terrain better than 26inch.
-Larger contact patch= better traction.
- More comfortable.
- Better rolling.
- Keeps momentum.
Sure, the bike weighs a bit more, but we’re* working on it…
* Specialized.
My dad, (also 6ft3) has this saying- “A good [...]

Like my bike - Specialized Stumpjumper 29er?

Friday, March 28th, 2008

My 2008 racing machine:
Specialized Stumpjumper 29er. Yes, it is BIG. Ryan Palmer built it at Specialized Team Camp last week, and when he finished building it, he said, “wow, its a monster”. The name might stick. The Monster.
I love the way this bike rolls over anything thats ugly, flat or downhill. Especially ugly. Uphill is [...]
