Santa Cruz, California (just south of San Fancisco) is wacky, its trendy and its also know as “Surf City”. And the place where Specialized test rides bikes and equipment.
I love ocean swims, and even the supposed 53F water (11C- although it felt warmer) did not put me off.
Won the biggest XTERRA ever held. 1300+ participants. The sport is growing like crazy here in Souf Effrica. Race was held at Buffelspoort outside Pretoria, South Africa.
On my way to PE for SA road TT champs on thursday.

I never tire of this episode from XTERRA Richmond Virginia 2009. “Tire” pun intended…
Dan Hugo and I pre rode the XTERRA Richmond course shortly after our arrival from XTERRA Northwest Cup in Coeur D’Alene, where I had a 4 inch nail puncture my tubeless tire in 2 places. See previous blog.
My replacement [...]
Hats off to the XTERRA TV crew and Whit Raymond (commentating)- those guys surely knows how to make one look good.
Thanks for the good times and good memories!
2008 XTERRA Worlds
The Caveman’s somewhat-secret XTERRA tips.
“Somewhat secret” because I borrowed (and modified) the article from my “All” (previous blog posts) page.
• XTERRA is a strong mans race. An endurance event. Don’t let the seemingly short distances fool you. Forget about 400 repeats on the track and all-out sprints on [...]
The next XTERRA champion, Evan Carlson, 14 years old, won his XTERRA Sport race. AND he knows all about tires pressures…
Stoltz, Bucher win XTERRA East Championship
06/20/2010
Flying out in a few hours and packing like crazy. Luckily my canceled flight this morning (would have been home already) will leave today after all. Instead of tomorrow…
Borrowed race [...]
I’m very lucky to have a full quiver of Specialized bikes to chose from!
After watching a few youtube videos on the Waco course, I decided to travel to Waco with my 29er Epic (Aluminium)- it loves rocky, rooty and twisty. But 30min into pre riding the course on wednesday I had to “call a friend” [...]
Caveboy. (or Cowman- Cowboy Caveman?) Renata Bucher’s 1st big win in the US Xterra Series
Due to excellent journalism by Trey Garman, I borrowed part of my race report from www.xterraplanet.com
[Conrad Stoltz, 36, from Stellenbosch, South Africa and Renata Bucher, 32, from Lucerne, Switzerland captured the inaugural XTERRA South Central Championship pro titles on [...]
Picture and story borrowed from www.slowtwitch.com
Conrad Stoltz won his second straight XTERRA 2010 USA Championship race and Renate Bucher her second ever with definitive victories at the XTERRA South Central Championship at Waco, Texas today.
Stoltz followed his XTERRA West Championship win at Lake Las Vegas last month with a 2:02:21 finish for the 1.5 k [...]
Conrad Stoltz did it again!
He won XTERRA Waco.
Waiting for results.
Bravo Caveman!
More pics from XTERRA Las Vegas coming in.
A couple of good qoutes this week:
From my coach Ian Rodger: “Training is like fighting a Gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the Gorilla is tired.” “or maybe its more like fighting Chuck, you dont stop till Chuck is tired…”
When I couldnt remember [...]

I “raced” the Xterra off road triathlon on the weekend. It’s really the grand daddy of off road triathlons in South Africa. It is a series of triathlons held around the country, and it was Cape Town’s / Western Cape’s [...]
2009 Wilseyville Hare Scramble write up, pics and video here.
The entry form says AMA championship series, so maybe it was a big race? All I know is I was as green as it gets. The newness of this unfamiliar sport opened my eyes to what athletes new to triathlon and XTERRA experience. Nervous, excited, clueless, [...]
Triathlon is booming in South Africa. Ironman in PE, the 70.3 in Buffalo city, the XTERRA Series in its 6th year, a budding ITU programme and various off road multisports events.
Triharder.co.za is a cool new South African based triathlon website and here is an interview I did a few weeks ago.

I got this birthday card from the Balega folks in South Africa. Tanya is always very creative with the Photoshop…
If your Afrikaans is a little rusty:
“Happy birthday Conrad, Enjoy every moment, Bert, Tanya and the Falke (Balega) team”
Also, my LUMA race kit by Greek artist Miltos Manetas can just in time for my birthday: Read [...]
So, you are a trail mashing mofo; gnarliest of the gnar. Yes, you are a fit machine and can ride. You have skills. Skills, eh? How about swimming, mountain biking and running — as in consecutively… in one day… at race pace?
Whaddya say? That off-road triathlon stuff — Xterra — isn’t for true mountain bikers? [...]
