I started in Sisters, just outside my home Bend, Oregon. I rode up and over the lava covered McKenzie pass and dropped down to the green lushiousness (its my blog, I can make up words if I like)- of the west side of the Cascades to almost sea level, (500m) before turning around and climbing back up and over the arid 1600m peak. Nothing but climbing or descending for 4 hrs- great training mixed in with soul riding. About as much fun as road riding gets&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"mckenziesummit.jpg\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/epic-long-ride-over-mckenzie-pass-oregon\/attachment\/385\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-385\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"mckenziesummit.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/mckenziesummit.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Nothing but black lava and white snow. In August!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"bikebench.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/bikebench.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nothing but green green and more green. And a bit of red&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"elevation200ft.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/elevation200ft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wet side<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"roadtosisters.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/roadtosisters.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dry side.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"lonetree.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/lonetree.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>High side<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"sno-cap.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/sno-cap.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And then of course we were really really hungry and hit the famous Sno Cap Diner in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sisterschamber.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sisters<\/a> for burgers and milkshakes. (Western style town with population 1750)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"suspenders.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conradstoltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/suspenders.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sno Cap has been one of the very oldest businesses in Sisters- where the local &#8220;old timers&#8221; go, a handy yardstick we use when picking eateries when traveling.
